Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, the physician should be better able to:

1.	Anticipate geriatric issues in the perioperative period and know how to evaluate for functional problems.
2.	Appreciate the impact of delirium on postoperative patients and identify ways to mitigate this syndrome.
3.	Manage appropriate bowel function in older persons in the perioperative period.
4.	Recognize that the older woman tolerates surgery well, but does not tolerate complications.
5.	Understand that pain management after reconstructive surgery in the older woman should be individualized.
6.	Realize that sexual function should be assessed prior to consideration of reconstructive surgery in the older woman.
